That leaves three choices:
1. actual revolution (which no sane person wants),
2. setting up an alternative government with 51% of the eligible electorate of the country de-registering from the current system and registering with an alternative system (which not enough people will have the courage or foresight to do) or
3. using the machinery of the current system to bring it to a crashing end.
Option 3 sounds like a runner but in fact using the voting system to dismantle the structure does NOT mean uniting disparate groups ... it means actually voting in as many individual, Independent, unaligned and even UN-UNITABLE parties as possible!
This would have the dual effect of destroying the stranglehold of the traditional crony parties, diluting power across a wide spectrum and creating a totally unworkable Dáil! At that point we'd be left with only option 2 - being forced to fundamentally redesign our political structure, public administration system and eventually putting power back in the hands of the people.
While groups calling for restoration of Articles 47 & 48 of the bastardised Constitution are right in principle, what they are asking is that we first hand power to politicians by voting them in, in the hope that once elected they themselves will vote to hand power back to us.
Wonderful in principle, but the reality is that the absolutely vice-like grip that corporate interest has now on our (and generally all) political systems, and the psychological profile of the players that this attracts, means that this could never happen.
At a recent rally I addressed the crowd stating that "the time of respect for authority is over".

Diarmuid O'Flynn of the Ballyhea Bondholder Bailout Protest group pulled me up on it after, saying "no, Paul ... WE are the authority. The PEOPLE are the power". At first I said yes, you're right, but after thinking about it, Diarmuid, I don't think it's true.
It's an IDEAL that in a democratic society the people have, indeed ARE, the authority. But in REALITY, where we all live, is that we have no power, no authority. Every 5 years or so we have ONE DAY when ALL the power is in our hands ... and the system is designed so that the ONLY thing we can do with all that power ... is give it away!
To liars and cowards and traitors and parasites and puppets.
We don't have democracy - we have CORPORATE FASCISM, where private interest trumps public interest.
We don't have a political system - we have a 5 Year Cycle of Abuse - and it's about to begin all over again.
Pat Rabbitte, (the Great Chameleon of Irish Politics who came from being a Trade Unionist to being a member of republican Sinn Féin The Workers Party with links to the Official IRA to winning himself a seat at the top table of the most fascist government in Irish history under the Blue Shirt Kenny), committed political suicide for himself and his party by arrogantly boasting that lying to the electorate is EXACTLY how you get elected to office in this country.
The current government have proven that assertion unequivocally when you go back to the campaign manifestos of Fine/Gaol and Slavour in 2010/2011.
The psychology of those who put themselves forward as the paragons of virtue in our society, promising us that if we entrust our authority to them our lives will be so much better, is the greatest enemy facing our nation's future.
If these psychopaths are the best we can do FOR OURSELVES! then the future looks very dark indeed ... and this may be our last chance to do anything about it.
The all-powerful, fascist European Super-State is here. We may not get another chance to escape.
So ... do we de-register from the corrupt, poisoned game-show that is the current political/state system? ... do we have a little SELF-respect and walk away from this abusive relationship? ... or do we ignore the truth, close our eyes and leave our mark on history - another X on another ballot paper in another 'General Deception'...?
The State Is Dead ... Long Live The State.
