Our society is a bastardised hybrid of Democracy, Oligarchy, Capitalism and Communism... It is basically Kleptocratic Demonism. (I am so copyrighting that).
We work in jobs for the private, free-market sector (capitalism) and hand more than half our earnings to the democratically elected state that is run by an oligarchy (the Economic Management Council Gang of Four)... who pretend to give us back the value of those taxes in public state services - health, education, infrastructure (communism).
The entire purpose and function of our publicly elected (democratic) unaccountable government (oligarchy) is the confiscation of private asset wealth (capital) ... from your house to the money in your pocket... (communism). The destruction of the middle class will leave a two tier society of rulers and ruled. The 0.01% and the 99.99%.
The State has abandoned the Constitution.
The family home is not protected...therefore the family is not protected...and in fact the destruction of the family by an adversarial family law system and the eviction of families in the commercial courts are huge business to the state and its elite insiders - the judiciary and law society.
We have no universal or absolute rights. We have pseudo-rights granted at the discretion of the State.
Every area of our lives is prescribed by the state.
Our democratic voice is silenced by a fascist system with no consequence for corruption and abuse.
There is no public service - only self service.
Those who are state insiders (public officials) act with impunity even when they hock our natural resources which are the property of the people held in trust by the state for financial or political profit.
Those who are outsiders (the citizens) are punished to the point of the removal of their freedom by imprisonment for minimal and inconsequential misdemeanors like not paying a tv license.
We are at a crossroads ...
to the left, the path to a communist welfare state where all are equal standing in the queue for bread and milk from the soup kitchen and a bed in the hostel.
to the right, the path to a world divided up by all powerful corporations (The Hunger Games) who control production and consumption where all are equal working for minimum wage and being able to afford the same amount of bread and milk and a subscription to zombie tv.
straight ahead we continue along the path we're on ... where the hybrid Demonist state, run by democratically elected corporate salesmen who answer to unelected boards of directors, taking 70% of our wages to give us back 10% in services, paying itself the other 60% and all are equal in their fear and distrust of their neighbours who the media says resents them because they have more bread and milk then them, or can't be trusted because they have less bread and milk than them.
Of course we can't "undo" development, progress, technological advancement etc. But what we CAN do is START AGAIN.
We CAN turn the clock back 100 years to the beginning of time ... the beginning of our time ... of our country ... not our "state"...our COUNTRY!
We can start again by restating our independence (leave the EU), our neutrality (end Air Base Shannon), our principles (reinstate the original Constitution), reform our parliamentary system (by outlawing corporate influence and the whip system), reclaim our resources (before TTIP removes that possibility forever), rebuild our economy (with agriculture, fisheries, tourism, IT), reform our judicial system (by some form of public representation within it) and reverse the transfer of wealth back to those at the margins of society by making all taxation means tested (so that those with the most are directly responsible for the welfare of those who need the most) and reinstate our currency (indexed to the two most important currencies in our foreign trade - the dollar and sterling...not the deutsch mark and the franc !), backed by the value of the oil and gas resources of our off-shore "vaults".
The crossroads is the next general election because by the next one in 2121 it will be too late. I hope it's not already.
If we do not implement this critically important shift in direction for our society in this election, and it turns out to be just another general deception, then the electoral system will no longer be a feasible means to reclaim control of our futures.
At that point the people will have to recognise the two remaining alternatives: armed insurrection or deregistration. The first is unconscionable to a civilised society (but it remains an option nonetheless). The second is the effective denial of the authority of the 'state' by a free, independent, democratic populace. The time is getting closer and closer that this option must become a topic of serious debate ... because if it doesn't then we may as well give up our dreams of a life of happiness for ourselves and our descendants right now..today.

the only other path is to turn around and go back the way we came ... to the country some of us remember.
